SHOULD I GET MY FURNITURE REUPHOLSTERED?
This depends on many factors. Modern furniture is designed to break down more quickly and thus need replacing sooner. Most modern furniture is also not designed to be reupholstered. It is made quickly and cheaply. Alternatively vintage (older than 20 years) and antique pieces (older than 100 years) were designed to stand the test of time. Reupholstery is not a cheap alternative to new furniture but it will last you much, much longer. Generally reupholstery should be considered for heirloom items, or pieces you LOVE, or items that serve a specific function. In my old house there was this odd little cove where a small antique loveseat fit perfectly! I reupholstered it because it was the only item I’d ever found to fit that space.
WHAT WILL REUPHOLSTERY COST?
Again, reupholstery is not a cheap alternative. You are paying for a skilled craftsperson to make your piece better than new. This includes stripping the piece down (typically to the frame), repairing any damaged framework, retrying springs, cutting and fitting foam, adding other padding, and wrapping the entire thing up in new fabric.
Pricing is always customized for each piece depending on the size, the complexity of the work and repairs needed. In some cases a piece can be made simpler to cut down on costs. For example, if you have a tufted piece but want to reduce your cost, I can modify the piece to have a smooth back or use cushions instead.
WHERE DO I FIND FABRIC?
Renovo works with more than a dozen fabric suppliers to help you find the best fabric for the job. Between these suppliers there are close to one million fabric options. Working directly with Renovo to purchase fabric ensures you will be receiving a high quality upholstery fabric that will stand the test of time. In very specific cases we may work with a fabric that you provide yourself (Customers Own Material = COM). You must get these fabrics approved by me before purchase. We reserve the right to refuse any fabric that in our professional opinion will not hold up. Additionally, by providing COM Renovo cannot provide any guarantees as to the durability of the fabric.
